How to write electronic configuration of Elements | spdf Electronic Configuration Trick – Digital Kemistry

Electronic Configuration:

The arrangements of electrons in various subshells ( or orbitals) is called electronic configuration.

To write electronic configuration of Elements , we must know the atomic number of element .

Atomic number is the total number of electrons revolves around the nucleus of an atom or the total number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.

Remember !!

In any neutral atom Total number of electron is always equal to the total number of protons.

With the help of atomic number (Proton number), we can easily fill the electrons in any subshell or orbital.

Lets find the spdf electronic configuration of elements according to Aufbau principle.

Electronic Configuration of First 10 Elements of Periodic Table on the basis of atomic number:

Hydrogen (H) :

Hydrogen has atomic number 1.

Hydrogen is the first element of the periodic table having only one electron that will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s. so the electronic configuration of H is 1s1.

Helium (He) :

Helium has atomic number 2.

He is the second element of the periodic table having two electrons that will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s. so the electronic configuration of He is 1s2.

Lithium (Li) :

Lithium has atomic number 3. Li is the third element of the periodic table having three electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s and the remaining one electron will occupy 2s subshell. so the electronic configuration of Li is 1s2 2s1.

Beryllium (Be) :

Beryllium has atomic number 4. Be is the fourth element of the periodic table having total 4 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s and the remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell. so the electronic configuration of Be is 1s2 2s2.

Boron (B) :

Boron has atomic number 5. B is the fifth element of the periodic table having total 5 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 1 electron in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of Boron (B) is 1s2 2s2 2p1.

Carbon (C) :

Carbon has atomic number 6. C is the sixth element of the periodic table having total 6 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 2 electrons in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of Carbon (C) is 1s2 2s2 2p2.

Nitrogen (N) :

Nitrogen has atomic number 7. It is the seventh element of the periodic table having total 7 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 3 electrons in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of nitrogen (N) is 1s2 2s2 2p3.

Oxygen (O) :

Oxygen has atomic number 8. It is the eighth element of the periodic table having total 8 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 4 electrons in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of oxygen (O) is 1s2 2s2 2p4.

Fluorine (F) :

Fluorine has atomic number 9. It is the ninth element of the periodic table having total 9 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 5 electrons in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of Fluorine (F) is 1s2 2s2 2p5.

Neon (Ne) :

Neon has atomic number 10. It is the tenth element of the periodic table having total 10 electrons.

Two electrons will occupy the lowest energy subshell 1s then remaining 2 electrons will occupy 2s subshell and 6 electrons in 2p subshell. so the electronic configuration of neon (Ne) is 1s2 2s2 2p6.
