Do you know !!

What is in a vape?

Typically, it consists of a blend of water, food-grade flavouring, a variety of nicotine strengths, cannabis (THC, CBD), propylene glycol (PG), or vegetable glycerin (VG). Both propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) are humectants used in e-liquid to create aerosols that mimic traditional cigarette smoke.

When compared to smoking, is vaping worse?

If you have ever considered quitting smoking and want to know more about vaping, here are 5 things you should know. Seven out of every ten smokers report having the desire to quit. If you want to improve your health, quitting smoking is a great place to start. Smoking has negative effects on almost every system in the body, including the heart. Cigarette and secondhand smoke are directly responsible for nearly a third of all fatalities from cardiovascular disease.

Is vaping safer than smoking?

They are not entirely danger-free, but they pose a much lower risk than cigarettes.

Unlike traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes do not produce toxic byproducts like tar and carbon monoxide.

Some potentially dangerous compounds found in cigarette smoke are also present in the liquid and vapour, albeit at considerably lower concentrations.

Are there any negative effects of nicotine?
In cigarettes, nicotine is an addictive ingredient, although it doesn’t do much harm.

Numerous additional compounds, many of which are poisonous, contribute significantly to tobacco smoke’s negative health effects.

To assist smokers to quit smoking, nicotine replacement therapy has been used successfully for many years.

How do electronic cigarettes function, and what are they?

An electronic cigarette is a tool for inhaling nicotine vapour rather than smoke.

Because they don’t burn tobacco, e-cigarettes don’t give off harmful byproducts like tar and carbon monoxide.

Heating a liquid containing nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and flavourings is how they function.

Vaping is the act of using an electronic cigarette.

Can you tell me about the many electronic cigarette options?

There is a wide selection of models to choose from:

Cigalikes are electronic cigarettes designed to look like traditional tobacco cigarettes.
In the form of a pen or short tube, vape pens house a tank for e-liquid, coils that can be swapped out, and rechargeable batteries.
Pod systems are portable, rechargeable devices that use e-liquid capsules and typically resemble a USB stick or a pebble.
Mods are the largest of the several types of electronic cigarette gadgets. They are able to be recharged, have a larger capacity tank, and provide electricity in varying degrees.
I’m not sure which electronic cigarette would be best for me.
The nicotine in a rechargeable e-cigarette with a refillable tank will be delivered more rapidly and efficiently than in a disposable one, increasing the likelihood of your success in kicking the habit.

A cigalike, vape pen or pod system may be a better option for you if you smoke only occasionally and don’t want to spend a lot of money.
It is recommended that heavy smokers use a vape pen, pod system, or mod.
You should also be careful to select an e-liquid with an appropriate nicotine concentration.
When looking for vaping equipment and liquid, consulting a vape store is a good idea.

There are resources available to help you quit smoking, such as vape shops and stop smoking programmes.

Can I use an electronic cigarette if I’m expecting a child?
Although there is a lack of data on the safety of e-cigarettes during pregnancy, it is reasonable to assume that they pose far less risk to both mother and child than traditional cigarettes.

To help you quit smoking during pregnancy, doctors recommend using only FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) including patches and gum.

But if you find that using an e-cigarette helps you quit and remain quit, it is safer for you and your baby than continuing to smoke.

When trying to quit smoking, electronic cigarettes (also known as e-cigarettes, vape pens, and other nondisposable and disposable vaping devices) may seem like an appealing middle ground. But is it true that electronic cigarette use (often referred to as “vaping”) is safer than traditional cigarette smoking? Can electronic cigarettes really help you kick the habit for good? Clinical research director of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease Michael Blaha, MD, MPH, discusses the effects of vaping on one’s health.

Even while e-cigarettes are safer than cigarettes, they are still not completely risk-free.

Electronic cigarettes work by heating nicotine (removed from tobacco), flavourings, and other compounds to the point where they release an aerosol that can be inhaled. The 7,000 chemicals found in regular tobacco cigarettes include many known carcinogens. Blaha claims, “There’s practically no doubt that vaping exposes you to less hazardous chemicals than smoking regular cigarettes,” while we don’t know for sure what chemicals are in e-cigarettes.

However, vaping is linked to a rise in lung damage and deaths. As of February 2020, 2,807 incidents of e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) and 68 deaths were confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

People who tinker with their vaping gear or buy illegally altered e-liquids are disproportionately represented among the victims of these incidents. This is especially the case with THC-containing e-liquids,” Blaha says.

According to the CDC, vitamin E acetate is a molecule to watch out for in EVALI patients. All of the EVALI patients whose lung fluid samples were analysed by the CDC had detectable levels of vitamin E acetate, a thickening ingredient commonly used in THC vaping products.

Those who want to follow the CDC’s advice should:

Do not use electronic cigarettes or other vaping devices that contain THC.

It’s best not to try to get your hands on a vaping device through unofficial channels like friends, relatives, or online sellers.

Vaping devices should not be altered in any way or used with any substances not recommended by the manufacturer.

There are thousands of chemical compounds in vape goods, the vast majority of which have not yet been identified, according to research by The Johns Hopkins University published in October 2021. The team was able to discover a number of potentially dangerous components, including caffeine, three chemicals not previously found in e-cigarettes, a pesticide, and two flavourings related with possible toxic effects and respiratory irritation.

It has been shown that using an electronic cigarette is harmful to your cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance. If you try to resist the need to smoke, you’ll experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine is highly poisonous. It’s dangerous because it speeds up your heart rate and boosts your blood pressure, both of which increase your risk of a heart attack.

Is there any harm to vaping?

When it comes to vaping, many questions remain unanswered, including what substances are present in vapour and what effects they may have on physical health. Using electronic cigarettes “may be harmful to your health,” Blaha warns. Recent studies have shown that using both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. You’re putting your body in danger by being exposed to unknown compounds that we don’t know much about.

Thirdly, electronic cigarettes have the same addictive qualities as regular cigarettes.

Cigarettes and e-cigarettes both contain nicotine, which some studies have shown to be just as addictive as harder drugs like heroin and cocaine. Worse yet, according to Blaha, many people who use e-cigarettes acquire considerably more nicotine than they would from a traditional cigarette. If you want a stronger nicotine dose from your e-cigarette, you may either purchase extra-strength cartridges that have a larger concentration of the chemical, or you can boost the device’s voltage.

When used regularly, does vaping cause an individual to start smoking cigarettes?

Many people who try vaping or electronic cigarettes end up recommending them to their friends who are trying to quit smoking traditional cigarettes. So, what about the inverse? Can the use of electronic cigarettes lead to the use of tobacco cigarettes?

Fourth, electronic cigarettes aren’t the most effective method for quitting tobacco use.

Despite their widespread advertising, electronic cigarettes have not yet been approved by the FDA as smoking-cessation aids. According to a recent study, the vast majority of persons who tried using e-cigarettes to break their nicotine addiction eventually went back to smoking conventional cigarettes as well.

The CDC has issued a warning to those who use electronic cigarettes to quit smoking that they should consider using alternative FDA-approved smoking cessation options first, especially in light of the EVALI outbreak.

5. Young people are becoming addicted to nicotine.

E-cigarettes, especially the disposable variety, have surpassed traditional tobacco products in popularity among young people. More than eight out of ten young people who use electronic cigarettes have tried flavoured varieties, according to the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey. This equates to more than two million middle and high school students in the United States.

Blaha posits three explanations for why e-cigarettes might appeal to young people. As a first point, a lot of young people think vaping is safer than smoking. Second, the cost per usage of an e-cigarette is far lower than that of a typical cigarette. Finally, both younger and older people appreciate the absence of smoking. Thanks to their odourless nature, e-cigarettes help normalise smoking in society.

One of the things that worries Blaha the most about the popularity of e-cigarettes is that it’s attracting new smokers, especially young people. Those who go from smoking cigarettes to vaping are a different story. Vaping is a whole other ballgame when it comes to initiating nicotine consumption. Addictiveness to nicotine can also lead to the use of conventional tobacco products in the future.

According to CDC data, teen vaping has decreased slightly since 2020. It’s possible that trend will continue if the COVID-19 outbreak forces children to stay home with their parents.

However, according to Blaha, it is difficult to draw conclusions from the data because young people’s tastes are fluid and they may not identify the use of disposable items like “puff bars” as vaping at the time of the study. The same CDC report notes that between 2019 and 2020, disposable e-cigarette use surged by 1,000% among high school students and by 400% among middle school students.

Epidemic Spread of COVID-19 and Vaping

According to Blaha, e-cigarette sales dropped around the start of the coronavirus pandemic, presumably because people stayed indoors and avoided public places.

However, Blaha has noticed a worrying trend: more and more people who vape are doing so on a daily basis. Concerningly, the percentage of persons who vape daily has increased significantly from its previous level of about one in five. My eyes are constantly on that.

The respiratory difficulties caused by COVID-19 can be exacerbated by the use of e-cigarettes, tobacco products, and other lung irritants.

Looking to kick the habit of vaping?

Heart disease and cancer are two of the many diseases that are strongly linked to smoking. However, the sooner you give up, the sooner your body can heal. If you want to stop smoking, talk to your doctor about what methods would work best for you.
