Why Standard Hydrogen Electrode act both as a Cathode and Anode | Electrochemistry

Do you Know?????

Why Standard Hydrogen Electrode act both as a Cathode and Anode ?

Depending on the other electrode coupled with the standard hydrogen electrode, it can be act as a cathode or anode.

Why Standard hydrogen electrode which is used as a reference electrode ,is also known as reversible electrode?

Reason:

It act both as a Cathode & Anode ,therefore ,it is also called reference electrode.

Example of SHE as a cathode & Anode

SHE act as Cathode

When SHE coupled with Zinc electrode

SHE act as Anode

When SHE coupled with Copper electrode
